About

Meet the Gilberts! We are John, Megan, Eli, Carly, John Thomas, Isaac, and Jude. I’ll be sure to get a picture of me and my bride on here soon. Everyone always asks us if our family is done growing. Our answer? The Lord has blessed us with the family that you see, and only He knows the plans that He has for us in the future! Maybe it includes more children, maybe it doesn’t. We try not to dwell on yesterday or worry about tomorrow. We thank the Lord for the lives He has given us today!

We hope that you get to see Jesus working and moving in us as we set out on a course determined to retake control of this life He has blessed us with, so that we are free to give it away to others in His service! So pull up a chair, sit back, grab your favorite cup of coffee or tea (I have learned that Ruiz coffee is really really, good), and see another country unfold before you through our many different eyes and perspectives. Whenever you think of us, please remember us in your prayers. We’re going to need them!

Great to know you made it safely, have been enjoying the ocean, as we would if we were there as well, living in paradise!

We can’t hear from Eli, J.T., Isaac, and Megan as well! Their perspectives will be unique, too.
Love you all! It was so hard to leave your house for the “last time.” I still can’t believe we can’t run over there! :-( But, we are so excited and happy for you all.

Megan, I’d love to hear about a “typical day” there. Food preparation, views, etc., will all be exciting for us moms to read about. Also, your interaction with the locals, how your Spanish is coming along, and anything else you want to tell us about! Miss you so much!

Hi Gilbert family! I was so excited to find your blog when I was doing a search for mission opportunities in Panama.
I am in a position where I am seriously able to consider a long-term commitment to serving the Lord in another country…at first I thought Costa Rica as we have been there twice. But my research keeps bringing me back to Panama…the Puerto Armuelles area specifically.
This is something my 16 year old daughter and I are quite intent on, so any advice, information you can offer would be hugely appreciated!
I look forward to reading more on your adventures…!

    Hi Tammy,

Thanks for visiting our little website, and thanks for reaching out.

I will send you the contact information for Thomas and Elvira Corbello for starters. They’re good friends of ours, and are missionaries serving in Puerto Armuelles, and have established a church there that has taken root. There is much need for laborers in this area of Panama and I’m sure they would love to hear from you. You will find that the people in and around Puerto Armuelles are open to the Gospel message and that many in the frontera are unreached. For example, I have witnessed Thomas leading a man to Christ while sharing the Gospel knelt down before the man and his wife who were seated on an outside bench, while piglets and chickens ran back and forth between Thomas’ legs. The man’s wife had called the man out of the fields to talk with us. It has been a few months but his name was Reuben if I remember correctly.

Thomas and Elvira are actually in the States for the next couple of months, as their oldest son TJ is busy transitioning toward college. You’ll love meeting them, they’re a hoot and are amazing examples of sacrificial service for the Lord.

    Blessings!

Thank you John for such a prompt reply!

I would LOVE to have contact info for Thomas and Elvira. :) So exiting to hear that people in and around Puerto Armuelles are so open to the Gospel. Kneeling in the dirt with chickens and piglets running about…as simple and real as the Gospel should be. Lovely!

Please feel free to send their contact info to the e-mail I used here..

Blessing to you and your family. We will continue to follow along.
